Program Overview

Hospital Medicine 2009 - The Society of Hospital Medicine's (SHM) Annual Meeting is the premier educational event for healthcare professionals who specialize in hospital medicine and has been designed to provide participants with tools to:

  • Improve clinical skills
  • Address management issues with possible solutions
  • Lead change and innovation within their organizations

Educational Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Describe current state-of-the-art evidence-based clinical practice for key topics in adult and pediatric hospital medicine
  • Implement system changes to promote quality and improve patient safety
  • Address current challenges in academic and educational systems for improving hospital medicine
  • Discuss new policy, financial, ethical, legal, and management trends impacting inpatient care

CME Certification

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of the American College of Physicians (ACP) and the Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM). The ACP is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing education for physicians.

The ACP designates the educational activity for the SHM Annual Meeting at a maximum of 15 category 1 credits toward the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. ABIM MOC Learning Session is designated for 6 credits; Coding and Documentation is designated for 7.25 credits; Critical Care is designated for 7.5 credits; Essential Procedures is designated for 3.75 credits; Practice Management is designated for 7.5 credits; Quality Improvement Skills is designated for 7.5 credits; Teaching Hospitalist Educators is designated for 8.25 credits.  Each physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in each educational activity.

Registration Deadlines

  • Early Registration: On or before April 5, 2009
  • Regular Registration: April 6 - May 11, 2009
  • Late / On-site Registration: May 12 - May 17, 2009

Cancellation/Refund Policy/Disclaimer

Notice of registration cancellation for Hospital Medicine 2009 including pre-courses must be made in writing via mail, fax, or email. Cancellations will not be accepted by telephone. The postmark, fax or email date will determine your refund using the following schedule:

Full Refund...............................................Prior to February 27, 2009

Full Refund (less $50 administrative fee)....Between February 27 - March 27, 2009

Full Refund (less $100 administrative fee)..Between March 28 - April 24, 2009

No Refund...............................................After April 24, 2009
