May 4, 2011 The Milwaukee/Southeast Wisconsin
chapter met on May 4, 2011. New officers were elected for the
upcoming year as a result of the meeting. The positions are as
follows:

The Milwaukee/Southeast Wisconsin chapter met on June 10, 2010 in
Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The chapter meeting was held with a discussion of
SHM’s chapter goals and the nominees for elections. Items also discussed
were SHM’s upcoming events and the idea of a social event such as Jazz
In The Park to increase membership numbers. After the chapter
meeting, there was a roundtable discussion lead by Dr. Sameer
Badloni about managing care transitions.

The SHM Milwaukee Chapter Meeting held on February 27th in the
Columbia Hospital Auditorium brought hospitalists, nurse practitioners,
pharmacists, and others from all across the Milwaukee area to obtain CME
on topics including Acute Coronary Syndrome, Hyponatremia, and Sepsis.
The Chapter meeting was highlighted by speaker Dr. Alpesh Amin from UC
Irvine who talked about how to start up a local SHM Chapter. Our major
sponsor, CME-University, helped to make our first hospital medicine
symposium a success. Thanks to all the hospitalists who attended.
| December 2, 2009
The Milwaukee Chapter met on December 2, 2009 at Sabor. The meeting was
a success. Dr. Alpesh Amin gave a very informative presentation on
antimicrobial resistance. We also had a lively discussion about health
care reform, palliative care, and what it means to be a hospitalist in
2009. The Executive Committee met and agreed to hold a hospital medicine
symposium on February 27, 2010, place to be determined.

The Milwaukee Chapter met on June 8, 2009 at Columbia Hospital.
The meeting was attending by four different hospital medicine groups,
and goals were set for the chapter for the coming months that include
quality improvement, advocacy, policy and membership.
| November 10, 2007
Milwaukee hospitalists organized their first meeting in about four
years, fifteen physicians and two physician assistants were in
attendance. There were a
total of four speakers at the day long event. Milwaukee Chapter president Dr. Josiah Halm
kicked off the meeting with an introduction and then presented
information about the SHM national organization. Dr. Halm also spoke about the rapid grown of
the hospitalist movement, the Journal of Hospital
Medicine, and the move towards
certification in hospital medicine. Speakers at the
event included, Dr. Mary-Ann Emanuele from Loyola University, who presented on the topic “Update
– Management of Hyperglycemia in the Hospital Setting”, Dr.
James Sebastian from the Medical College of Wisconsin presenting on
“An Update in Anticoagulation in the Hospitalists Setting”
and Dr. Eric Siegal from Cogent Healthcare presenting on
“Hospitalist Malpractice.”
Each of the presentations was judged to be excellent from the
attendee’s feedback and they look forward to additional meetings
to foster collaboration and networking with fellow hospitalists.
June 8th, 2009
The Milwaukee / SE Wisconsin Chapter met on June 8th, 2009 and had a
successful turnout. We set up a Board of Directors and received
commitments from each board member to have an event. At least four
different hospital organizations and groups were there. We also elected
officers. Discussions of goals were done at this meeting: The forum for
this year will be Quality and Improvement, Policy Advocacy, and
increasing membership.
