SHM Board of Directors Election InformationThe SHM
Nominating Committee is requesting nominations for four (4) open seats
on the Board of Directors for a three (3) year term beginning April
2012. Any member is eligible for open seats. 2011 – 2012
Election ProcessWho is eligible to be nominated?- SHM member in good standing
- Board certified in
primary specialty
- Must be prepared to travel to Board
meetings four times a year
- Must be prepared to respond
to emails on a daily basis and actively participate in Board list
serve
- Must be willing to serve on SHM committees
- Must be
prepared to serve a 3–year term
- Candidates may
self–nominate or may be nominated by another SHM
member
Candidates for Nominations must submit- One–page CV (12 font and 1"
margins)
- One–page Nominating Letter (12 font and 1"
margins)
- recent headshot photo in a word document
- each
candidate has the option of submitting one additional Letter of
Support(one page, 12 font and 1" margins). These may not come from any
current SHM Board members.
- Letters should be addressed to: SHM
Board of Directors Chair, SHM Nominations
Committee
- Candidates should note that the Letter of
Support is only for Nominations Committee use. However, for those
candidates ultimately on the election ballot, the CV, headshot, and the
Nominating Letter will be sent as submitted to all voting members of
SHM.
- Letters will be accepted by mail or email only. No
faxes allowed due to potential poor quality.
Criteria to be
used in consideration of nominees for ballot- Duration of SHM
membership
- Activity as a hospitalist
- Activity within, or
contributions to SHM
- Activity within SHM at Local or Regional
level
- Prominence as a hospitalist
- Ability to provide
skills or experience not currently found on Board
- Add to the
diversity of the Board

- November 22, 2011 – Ballots available on line
to SHM members
- January 15,2012 – Voting completed on
line
- February 10, 2012 – Notification of candidates of
results of election
- February 17, 2012 – Posting of
election results on SHM web site
- April 2012 – Elected
