Today's changing hospital environment doesn't just demand clinical skills – it requires leadership at all levels.

Leadership skills are vital to leading and motivating teams, improving patient safety and clinical efficiencies, and growing financially solvent hospitals and hospital medicine programs.

For employers and recruiters, Leadership Certification is an easy, reliable way to identify hospitalists who have demonstrated and proven their leadership capabilities.

Who should obtain Hospital Medicine Leadership Certification?
Hospital medicine professionals who value structured professional development and recognition for leadership accomplishments.

The Society of Hospital Medicine's (SHM's) Leadership Certification Program prepares you to succeed in hospital medicine practice settings and allows you to devise a professional development plan to match your personal career aspirations toward physician executive positions such as VPMA, CMO, CQO, CEO, Department Chair and other roles.

How does certification compare to other advanced training offerings?
SHM's extensive surveys, focus groups and interviews with hospital medicine practitioners, educators, leaders and employers concluded that despite a wealth of available training options, none are specific or comprehensive in addressing the unique challenges within hospital medicine. Other training programs conclude with a certificate of completion. SHM's training program concludes with a portfolio illustrating your ability to achieve results.
