The Society of Hospital Medicine's (SHM's) mentored implementation
programs – Project BOOST, GCMI and VTE-PC – are now approved
through the American Board of Internal Medicine's (ABIM's) Approved
Quality Improvement (AQI) Pathway and are each eligible for 20 points
toward the Self-Evaluation of Practice Performance requirement of
Maintenance of Certification (MOC).
After completing participation in SHM's mentored implementation
programs, you can attest to your participation and receive 20
Self-Evaluation of Practice Performance points by submitting a report
to ABIM through your physician home page on www.abim.org. Simply log
in using your six digit ABIM ID and password and click "Submit AQI
Project Report" listed under "My Maintenance of Certification
Program." ABIM will grant MOC points after SHM verifies your
participation in Project BOOST, GCMI or VTE-PC.
What do you need to do to receive MOC credit for participating in
Project BOOST, GCMI or VTE-PC?
In order to receive 20 ABIM Maintenance of Certification points via
the AQI Pathway for participation in SHM mentored implementation
programs, a physician needs to complete the following or serve on a
team or as a formal SHM mentor to ensure that the following occurs:
- Monthly data collection on established measures for 12 months
- Regular online data sharing and collaboration
- Regular mentor and/or group calls as scheduled by SHM and your
mentor
- Any required ABIM reports/attestations
Important Information for ABIM-Certified Participants
Once a physician submits an AQI Project Report to ABIM, he or she
may wait up to two weeks before the verification request is completed by
the sponsor and results are received (MOC credit issued or MOC credit
not issued).
For end-of-year requests, ABIM does not guarantee that MOC points
will be issued with the calendar year for AQI reports submitted after
December 1 (due to delays in confirming participation, etc.).
