Course Overview

This course is designed for individuals seeking to improve the management and operation of an existing hospital medicine program, or to start a new program. The course, including content and format, has been entirely reworked and updated for 2009.

The faculty is composed of national leaders in the field who have combined hospital medicine experience of more than 50 years. They include practicing hospitalists who “walk the talk,” as well as physician practice leaders and non-physician healthcare executives and consultants. The course is organized to provide specific tools and guidance, and not just concepts.

Course Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Project volume and determine staffing requirements for your hospital medicine program
  • Define and address key implementation and operational issues relevant to your hospital medicine program
  • Develop compensation and scheduling models for your hospital medicine program

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of the American College of Physicians (ACP) and the Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM). The ACP is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing education for physicians.

The American College of Physicians designates the educational activity for a maximum number for each course of category 1 credit toward the AMA Physician Recognition Award as follows: Practice Management for 7.5 credits. Each physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in each educational activity.
