Coalition to Prevent DVT
The Coalition to Prevent DVT provides online resources for clinicians, media and general public. View the Coalition’s website for facts, signs and symptoms, risk assessments, and other DVT Resources.

DVT - MedlinePlus & PE - MedlinePlus
MedlinePlus allows patients and healthcare professionals access to DVT & PE overviews, latest news, diagnosis/symptoms, treatment, prevention/screening, journal articles, and research.

Clot Care
Clot Care is an online resource for patients and healthcare providers with information and expert insight on optimal use of antithrombotic and anticoagulant therapy.

National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI)  
The NHLBI provides information online for patients on DVT & PE. The site will provide patients with an overview of what DVT and PE is, causes, who is at risk, signs and symptoms, diagnosis, treatments, prevention, living with, and key points.

Anticoagulant Toolkit
Reducing Adverse Drug Events & Potential Adverse Drug Events with Unfractionated Heparin, Low Molecular Weight Heparins and Warfarin. This toolkit developed by Purdue University PharmaTAP in collaboration with the Indiana Patient Safety Center (IPSC), Indiana Hospital Association (IHA) and VHA Central. The toolkit is designed to help hospitals meet the joint commission national public safety goal to reduce patient harm associated with anticoagulant therapy.

The Surgeon General’s Call to Action to Prevent Deep Vein Thrombosis and Pulmonary Embolism
On September 15, 2008 the Surgeon General released a call to action to reduce the number of cases of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism in the United States. The site includes fact sheets which can be used to increase awareness among patients.

Books

For patients, practical information is provided in clearly written patient education documents. Information from National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Combined Health Information Database (CHID), and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI). Thrombosis
Endorsed by the Canadian Medical Association, "Thrombosis" is for patients who have questions about blood clots, the causes and complications, how to prevent, diagnose and treat. Dr Hirsh wrote this book in response to frequently asked questions during his practice in a specialty clinic for patients with blood clots.

Know the Risks for Deep Vein Thrombosis is a handout from the Coalition to Prevent DVT. It can be downloaded and printed for patients to familiarize themselves with the risk factors of DVT.
