Improving Glycemic Control in the Inpatient Setting: An Interdisciplinary Team Approach
This CME activity will address successful methods for improving glycemic control in hospitalized patients, based on national guidelines and performance measures. Strategies for ensuring safe and effective administration and monitoring of insulin therapy in the hospital setting will be discussed using patient case studies. Additionally, the faculty will discuss interdisciplinary approaches to developing and implementing protocols for glycemic control in the hospital setting.

At the conclusion of the activity, participants should be able to

  • Summarize the importance of strict inpatient glycemic control to patient outcomes in hospitalized patients.
  • List and describe national guidelines and performance measures for appropriate glycemic control in hospitalized patients.
  • Propose a hospital-wide systematic plan for developing and implementing strict glycemic control policies and protocols and ensuring safety in insulin therapy in the hospital setting.

This activity is designated for a maximum of 2.0 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM.

Improving Patient Care in the Hospital Setting: Applying Current Therapeutic Trends and Clinical Evidence to Transfusion Protocols
There are many examples in the medical literature documenting improvements in patient care and health care resource utilization associated with the systematic development and institution-wide implementation of evidence-based, interdisciplinary treatment guidelines and protocols. These issues and other important topics in transfusion medicine will be addressed in this program.
After participating in this educational activity, participants should be able to

  • Discuss the current guidelines for the appropriate use of blood products, components, and therapeutic adjuncts.
  • Explain the rationale and potential impact on patient care of applying current evidence and adjunctive therapies to transfusion protocols in the hospital setting.
  • Discuss strategies for the successful development and implementation of transfusion guidelines or protocols.

This activity is designated for a maximum of 2.0 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM.
