Laurence Wellikson, MD, MHM
Chief Executive Officer

Dr. Wellikson, MD, MHM, a board certified specialist in internal medicine, joined the Society in January of 2000 and serves the Society as Chief Executive Officer. Prior to his current position, Dr. Wellikson practiced internal medicine and was the founder and senior manager of an integrated medical group, IPA, and management services organization in Southern California that managed the healthcare of 130,000 capitated lives and contracted with 570 physicians. He was also a founder and senior partner in MedQuest Partners, LLC, a national consulting practice specializing in physician group, hospital, and/or insurance company relationships.
Dr. Wellikson has served as a Trustee of the American Society of Internal Medicine and a regent of the American College of Physicians. He is an assistant professor of medicine at the University of California at Irvine Medical School. A featured speaker on the topics of hospital medicine, the hospital of the future, and physician empowerment, Dr. Wellikson has helped hospitals, physicians, medical groups, pharmaceutical companies and national organizations understand the current medical environment and fashion strategies for success.

Beth Hawley, MBA, SFHM, FACHE
Chief Operating Officer
Beth Hawley joined SHM on June 1, 2016 and serves as Chief Operating Officer. She is responsible for driving program and business success across the organization and ensuring that the Society’s operations are consistent with its mission, vision and core values. Ms. Hawley is accountable for leading a highly motivated and accountable leadership team in strategic planning, organizing and directing several key program and operations function, and defining and achieving goals.
Prior to SHM, Ms. Hawley was Senior Vice President for Strategic Initiatives at IPC and TeamHealth, and Chief Customer Experience Office at Cogent Healthcare.
She holds a BS from Drexel University, and MBA from Eastern University, a Certificate in Occupational Therapy from the University of Pennsylvania and a Certificate of Achievement as a Green Belt in Six Sigma from Villanova University. She is a Senior Fellow in Hospital Medicine with SHM, and has served on both the Practice Analysis and the PMRC (Performance, Measurement and Reporting) Committees. She is also a Fellow with the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE).
Director, Business Development
Ms. Scott joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in 2010 and serves as the Director of Business Development. Ms. Scott works with industry and business representatives to help them meet their objectives in working with the Hospitalist audience and Members of the Society. She is responsible for connecting corporate partners with opportunities such as supporting key projects in SHM’s Center for Hospital Innovation & Improvement, National and Chapter Meetings, Sponsorships, and other SHM channels.
Prior to joining SHM, Ms. Scott worked for Janssen Pharmaceutica and Centocor, both Johnson & Johnson companies, in Sales and Marketing roles specializing in the Hospital segment. She also owned her own Strategic Marketing consulting company for two years before joining SHM.
Ms. Scott received her BBA in Marketing and Management from Loyola University and studied International Business in Leuven, Belgium. She completed her Six Sigma Greenbelt while at J&J and won the Capstone Marketing Simulation as well. She lives with her husband and two children in Villanova, Pennsylvania.
Ms. Jones joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in June 2005 and has served several positions in the education department such as Senior Project Manager and Manager, Annual Meeting. In September of 2015 she transitioned to Manager of Business Development and is now responsible for Exhibit and Sponsorship sales and fulfillment. Prior to joining SHM, Ms. Jones was a Paralegal at the law firm of Kent & McBride P.C.
Director of Meetings
Ms. Kann joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in February of 2010 as the Director of Meetings. She is responsible for managing meeting logistics for several meetings throughout the year as well as exhibit coordination for the Annual Meeting.
Prior to joining SHM, Ms. Kann was Catering/Convention Services Manager at the Hyatt Regency Princeton. She earned her BS in Marketing from Roger Williams University and MBA in Hospitality and Tourism Management from Johnson and Wales.
Director of Education
Mr. Marzano joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in August of 2011 and currently serves as Director of Education. His primary responsibilities include managing the SHM Learning Portal, Education Committee, and CME accreditation. Mr. Marzano also manages the SHM Spark self-assessment tool and other products and services related to physician certification.
Outside of SHM, Mr. Marzano is active in Philadelphia public life, serving as Democratic Committeeperson in the 2nd Ward, Board Chair of Young Involved Philadelphia, director at Keep Philadelphia Beautiful, and on the advisory board for Code For Philly. He earned his MEd in Curriculum and Instruction from Penn State University in 2010, and holds a bachelor's degree in English.
Education Project Manager
Ms. Bowman joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in September of 2012 and serves as Education Project Manager. She serves as the primary staff member for e-learning product development and expansion and manages the Research, Innovations, and Clinical Vignettes Scientific Abstract competition.
Prior to joining SHM, Ms. Bowman worked in curriculum development for k-12 online education. She holds a bachelor's degree in English from Houghton College.
Shelly Ganguli, PMP
MOC Project Manager
Ms. Ganguli joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in 2014 and serves as Project Manager, MOC Programs. She is responsible for developing the American Board of Internal Medicine Focused Practice in Hospital Medicine exam preparation tool for hospitalists. In addition, Ms. Ganguli is responsible for managing all strategy and programs related to SHM’s Maintenance of Certification programs.
Prior to SHM, Ms. Ganguli worked as an Educational Services Coordinator and Continuing Medical Education Coordinator at the Health Research and Educational Trust of New Jersey at the New Jersey Hospital Association. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from Temple University’s Fox School of Business. Ms. Ganguli is also a Project Management Institute (PMI) certified Project Management Professional (PMP).
ACCME Accreditation and Compliance Manager
Ms. McConnell joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in 2015 and serves as the CME Accreditation and Compliance Manager. She is responsible for the completion of the ACCME initial accreditation process and to ensure the requirements for SHM’s accreditation status are met.
Prior to joining SHM, Ms. McConnell worked in Graduate Medical Education for Aria Health, The Brooklyn Hospital Center and Crozer-Chester Medical Center and Continuing Medical Education for Thomson Professional Postgraduate Services and The New York Academy of Medicine.
Ms. McConnell holds a master degree in Organization and Strategic Leadership and bachelor’s degree in business management.
Education and Meetings Project Manager
Ms. Montimore joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in 2014 as a Education and Meetings Project Manager. She holds supportive roles between the Center for Hospital Innovation and Improvement and the Annual Meeting. She also assists in the outreach to hospital teams to help promote and bring awareness to a variety of SHM’s initiatives.
She attended York College of Pennsylvania where she earned her B.A in Mass Communications with a minor in Speech Communications. Prior to working for SHM Ms. Montimore worked as a Key Account Executive for Gannett.
Ms. Myers joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in January of 2010 and serves the Society as Manager, Meetings. Ms. Myers is responsible for managing meeting logistics and content management for the Academic Hospitalist Academy and the Quality and Safety Educators Academy, and manages logistics for Pediatric Hospital Medicine during SHM’s host years. She serves in a supporting role assisting in the coordination of annual meeting logistics. Ms. Myers is also responsible for the management of multiple registration databases across all educational events.
Prior to joining SHM, Ms. Myers was employed by Seraphin Gallery, while she earned her Bachelor of Science at Drexel University’s Wesphal College of Media Arts and Design.
Education and Meetings Customer Support Coordinator
Ms. Nicholson joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in November of 2015 and serves as the Education and Meetings Customer Support Coordinator. She works with the meetings and digital learning teams to support participants of SHM’s live meetings and online learning.
Prior to SHM, Ms. Nicholson worked for 5+ years in the education field in different roles ranging from university admission/financial aid support to, most recently, serving as a Director of Admissions at a Charter School. Ms. Nicholson earned her Master’s of Public Administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 2010, and holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science & Sociology.
Education and Meetings Project Manager
Ms. Regosch joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in July 2013 and serves as the Education and Meetings Project Manager. She is responsible for the educational content for the Pediatric Hospital Medicine franchise, representing SHM on the PHM planning committee each year as well as managing the content for years that SHM manages PHM. She also serves as the staff liaison to the SHM Pediatrics Committee. Ms. Regosch also manages the educational content for the SHM Leadership Academy as well as coordinating the exhibit program for the Annual Meeting.
Prior to joining SHM, Ms. Regosch was an Analyst of Guest and Meeting Planner Satisfaction at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a focus in Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management from the University of Delaware.
Director of Finance
Ms. Watson joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in July of 2010 as the Director of Finance. In her accounting role she performs the closing of the monthly results, budget variances, and preparation of financial analysis.
Prior to joining SHM, Ms. Watson was Client Accounting Manager at Vox Medica, a Healthcare Marketing Agency in Philadelphia. She earned her BA in Communications at Rowan University.
Mr. Niehe joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in May of 2015 as the Senior Accountant. In his accounting role he performs monthly and yearend closings, A/R aging review, contracts and rates review, and financial analysis.
Prior to joining SHM, Mr. Niehe was Senior Accountant at Central Montgomery Mental Health Center, which is a nonprofit organization providing Inpatient and Outpatient Behavioral Healthcare located in Norristown.
Marlene Scully joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in 2014 and serves as the Accounts Receivable Coordinator. She is responsible for billing, daily cash reconciliation, and all other aspects of accounst receivable.
Director of Government Relations
Mr. Boswell joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in June of 2010. Mr. Boswell is responsible for strategic development, implementation, and administration of the government relations goals of the Society. Major elements of this position include coordinating committee functions and volunteer advocacy efforts; and managing activities related to the development, implementation, and budgeting of the government relations efforts of the Society. He also engages in legislative and regulatory analysis, and supports the overall policy work of SHM.
Prior to joining SHM, Mr. Boswell served on the staff of a Pennsylvania State Senator and he most recently worked in private practice as an associate attorney. Mr. Boswell earned a BA in Political Science from the University of Pittsburgh and his JD from Ohio Northern University.
Government Relations Specialist
Ms. Boyer joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in October of 2014 and serves as the Government Relations Specialist. She is responsible for supporting the work of the Government Relations Department in their advocacy efforts via the grassroots network as well as through various communications outlets, including the newsletter and SHM website. Ms. Boyer holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and English from Temple University.
Government Relations Manager
Mr. Lapps joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in February of 2012 as the Government Relations Manager. He is responsible for developing strategies to identify and educate hospitalists on key public policy issues. Mr. Lapps will lead the growth of capacity for grassroots political advocacy in the membership.
Prior to his position at SHM, Mr. Lapps worked with non-profit and community organizations on issues of health and health access and participated in health policy and community-based research. He has a BS in Bioethics from Dickinson College and a MA in Health Advocacy from Sarah Lawrence College.
Joi Seabrooks, PHR
Director of Human Resources
Ms. Seabrooks joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in September of 2006 and serves as the Director of Human Resources. She is responsible for all aspects of Human Resources at SHM, which includes, employee relations, benefit management, recruitment, and retention.
Prior to joining SHM Ms. Seabrooks worked at Spectrum Health Services, Inc. where she was and administrative coordinator She is a member of the Society of Human Resources Management. She received her Master Certification in Human Resources Management in 2010 In 2011 she earned her Professional in Human Resources Certification from the HR Certification Institute.
Ms. Brown joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in April of 2004 and serves the Society as the Office Manager. She is responsible for processing membership applications, renewals, registration of attendees to the organization's various conferences, daily processing of the organization's receipts, accounts payables, and monthly financial reporting.
Prior to joining SHM, Ms. Brown was the Divisional Administrative Assistant for the Northeast Treatment Center/Wharton Center- Men's Behavioral Health Inpatient Center.
Vice President, Communications
Ms. Zoks joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in January 2016 and serves as Vice President of Communications. She is responsible for the implementing SHM’s communications strategic plan designed to maximize engagement with the hospital medicine community, optimize digital strategies to promote and enhance the organization’s brand, and expand the reach of SHM branded content and publications.
Prior to SHM, Ms. Zoks worked as Marketing Director for Wolters Kluwer and previously as Worldwide Director of Marketing Communications at the Drug Information Association. She holds a BA in International Affairs with a concentration in Economics from the George Washington University.
Senior Graphic Designer
Ms. Bradwell joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in April of 2014 and serves as the Senior Graphic Designer. She is responsible for creating printed design material for the organization.
Prior to SHM, Ms. Bradwell worked as a package designer, print designer and most recently, she was an art director/graphic designer for Barnabas Health.
Ms. Bradwell earned her Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design from Moore College of Art and Design. Recently, she has been also studying web design at Moore College of Art and Design.
Mrs. Daniele joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in 2009 as a Marketing Assistant. She now serves as a Marketing Manager and is responsible for promoting Education and Meetings, Membership and Business Development.
Prior to SHM, Mrs. Daniele worked as a Marketing Assistant for Honeywell.
She earned her B.S. in Business Administration with a minor in Communications from Drexel University.
Junior Graphic Designer
Ms. Howard joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in September 2012 as the education and meetings assistant. In June 2015 she transitioned into the marketing department as the junior graphic designer where she is responsible for supporting the senior graphic designer in creating printed design material for the organization.
Prior to SHM, Ms. Howard worked as the marketing assistant for the University City Science Center.
Ms. Howard earned her Bachelor’s Degree in communication and Master’s Degree in culture, communication and media from Drexel University.
Mr. Radler joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in May of 2015 and serves as SHM’s Communications Specialist. He is responsible for managing the day-to-day social media engagement across SHM’s social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube. Mr. Radler also assists in the management of SHM’s blog, The Hospital Leader, develops content for SHM’s monthly newsmagazine, The Hospitalist, and monitors media coverage relevant to the hospital medicine movement.
Prior to SHM, Mr. Radler worked as a Communications Specialist for Siemens Corporate Technology. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Communication from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ.
Mrs. Schonberger joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in July 2013 and serves as a Marketing Manager. She is responsible for promoting the Center for Hospital Innovation and Improvement and Practice Management.
Prior to SHM, Mrs. Schonberger worked as a Senior Marketing Manager for Wolters Kluwer Health where she worked closely in Internal Medicine and Family Medicine.
She earned her Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Pennsylvania State University.
Marketing Project Manager
Ms. Smith joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in May of 2013 and serves as the Marketing Project Manager. She is responsible for the department's email processes, print production, data tracking and reporting. Ms. Smith also serves as the department's project traffic coordinator.
Prior to SHM, Ms. Smith worked as a Marketing and Administrative Assistant for Kindred Hospital South Philadelphia.
Ms. Smith earned her Bachelor's Degree in Advertising Communications from Temple University.
Claudia Stahl, Content Manager, joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in October 2009 as Education Manager. As a member of the Center for Hospital Innovation and Improvement, Ms. Stahl partners with SHM's Patient Experience Committee to identify opportunities for hospitalists to improve patients' experience of care. Ms. Stahl also works with SHM's Academic and Research committees to develop and implement programs that support the educational and professional development needs of academic hospitalists.
Over the course of her career in healthcare communications, Ms. Stahl has worked as a project manager, a magazine writer and editor, a medical editor, and a marketing manager. She earned a BA in Journalism from Temple University and holds a Certificate in Hospital Patient Advocacy from the Professional Patient Advocate Institute.
Ms. Steele joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in November of 2016 and serves as the Communications Coordinator. She is responsible for day-to-day social media engagement across various platforms, developing content that supports SHM’s brand and core values, monitoring SHM’s media coverage and assisting in the moderation of SHM’s online community, HMX.
Prior to SHM, Ms. Steele was the Sales & Marketing Assistant at The MandMarblestone Group, LLC, a tax law consulting firm. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies with a minor in Public Health at Temple University.
Ethan Gray, CAE
Vice President of Membership & Marketing
Mr. Gray joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in April 2012 as Senior Manager of Membership. He has since transitioned to oversee all membership and marketing functions.
Prior to joining SHM, Mr. Gray spent 5+ years in an Association Management setting working primarily with professional medical societies serving a variety of practitioners. Mr. Gray has also worked in development & fundraising capacities for stand-alone organizations.
Mr. Gray earned a BA in Economics from Syracuse University. He is an active member of ASAE (the American Society of Association Executives) and earned his Certified Association Executive (CAE) credential in December 2012.
Manager, Membership & Outreach Programs
Debra joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in January 2011 and serves as the Membership and Outreach Programs Manager. She is part of the team responsible for member acquisition and retention, building chapters and chapter leadership, and developing alliances in support of increased membership.
Prior to SHM, Debra worked at Clinical Laboratory Management Association as Director of Member Education, and Soroptimist International as Director of Corporate Relations. She earned her B.S. in Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and a certificate in Executive Management for Non Profits from the University of Pennsylvania.
Membership Services Coordinator
Ms. Castleberry joined SHM in 2009 as Membership Services Coordinator responsible for handling the daily flow of the receptionist area and all calls, vendors, visitors, deliveries and training of the Co-op students for back up; responsibilities also include assisting the Membership Department and the Education and Meetings Department with registration for the Annual Meeting; processing request for SHM logo materials and assisting all staff members with assignments as needed.
Prior to joining SHM, Ms. Castleberry was an administrative assistant at CHOP and a legal secretary for 17 years at the law firm of Blank Rome assigned to travel throughout the Northeast Corridor satellite offices (Trenton, Media, Wilmington and Baltimore) wherever there was a shortage of secretarial help and also to assist the secretaries with training on the policies and procedures of the firm; always smiling, having a positive attitude and a team player.
Project Manager, Member Engagement
Ms. Chester joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in November 2014 as the Membership Engagement Coordinator. She now serves as a Project Manager for Member Engagement and is responsible for managing and strategically growing the Chapters Program and Future of Hospital Medicine Program for residents and students.
Prior to SHM, Ms. Chester worked as an Associate Director with Fernley & Fernley, Inc., working with several non-profit associations for several years. She received her B.S. in Business Administration from John L. Grove College of Business at Shippensburg University.
Data Operations Manager
Ms. Russell joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in January, 2012 and serves as the Data Operations Manager. She is responsible for increasing the growth and ensuring the data integrity of the SHM membership database.
Prior to SHM, Ms. Russell worked for 12 years in the Online department of the Courier-Post newspaper. She received her B.A. in Communications from Rowan University.
Manager of Member Engagement
Ms. Griffith joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in September 2009 supporting the Center for Hospital Innovation and Improvement on various mentored implementation initiatives, as well as quality and patient safety programs.
Currently, Ms. Griffith serves as the Manager of Member Engagement where she is responsible for the strategic growth of SHM’s Chapters, Sections and Special Interest programs, providing members with meaningful engagement, networking and educational opportunities, to make a difference for their patients, their practice and the specialty as a whole.
Prior to SHM, Ms. Griffith worked as an Account Relationship Specialist with the Gannett Company. She received her Bachelor of Science from the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY.
Manager of Member Relations
Ms. Robinson joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in September 2010 and serves the Society as Manager of Member Relations. She owns many operational and customer service functions that are foundational to the constituent experience. Further, she manages essential vendor relationships that facilitate our retention program and handles all group billing which represents a larger portion of our membership revenue each year. Prior to joining SHM, Ms. Robinson worked as a Senior Member Services Representative at Independence Blue Cross.
She has completed courses at Drexel University and has an Associate's Degree in Business Administration from the Community College of Philadelphia.
Membership Support Specialist
Ms. Williams joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in April 2013 and serves as the Membership Support Specialist. She is responsible for supporting the membership department on recruitment and retention initiatives, managing member and customer inquiries and processing membership transactions.
Prior to joining SHM, Ms. Williams worked for 7+ years in the healthcare industry in different customer and staff support roles.
Ms. Williams earned her B.S. in Education from Temple University.
Patrick Vulgamore, MPH
Director, Practice Management and Governance
Patrick joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in May of 2013. He is responsible for overseeing governance operations as well as the creation of relevant practice management content.
Prior to joining SHM, he gained valuable experience in association management, office management/behavior plan creation at a residential treatment facility and he has created a non-profit that builds community gardens.
He earned his master’s in public health from West Chester University, graduate certification in applied behavior analysis from UMASS Boston and BA in psychology from West Virginia University.
Eric Howell, MD, MHM
Senior Physician Advisor
Eric E. Howell, MD, MHM, is a Professor of Medicine, in the Department of Medicine, at Johns Hopkins University. He holds multiple titles within the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, including Chief of the Division of Hospital Medicine at Johns Hopkins Bayview, Section Chief of Hospital Medicine for Johns Hopkins Community Physicians, Deputy Director of Hospital Operations for the Department of Medicine at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and Chief Medical Officer of Operations at Johns Hopkins Bayview in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Howell received his electrical engineering degree from the University of Maryland at College Park, and his medical degree from the University of Maryland, School of Medicine. After finishing residency training in Internal Medicine at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, he completed one year as Chief Resident. Dr. Howell joined the Johns Hopkins Bayview hospitalist program in 2000 and began the Howard County General Hospital hospitalist program in 2010. He oversees the management of more than 100 physicians and clinical staff providing patient care in three hospitals. His work in the areas of conflict management, and hospital systems, including care transitions and patient flow initiatives, has earned him national recognition.
Dr. Howell has been recognized for his educational and clinical contributions with awards from multiple institutions, including the Society of Hospital Medicine’s award for “Excellence in Teaching”, the American College of Physicians Maryland Chapter’s “Hospitalist Physician Achievement Award”, Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center’s “Physician Leadership Award” and Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine’s “Professor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching”.
Dr. Howell has been and remains an active member in the Society of Hospital Medicine. He is a past President of the Society of Hospital Medicine (2013), the course director for the SHM Leadership Academies, and most recently appointed as the Senior Physician Advisor to the SHM Center for Hospital Innovation and Improvement.
Director, The Center for Hospital Innovation and Improvement
Ms. Goldstein joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in May 2012 as a Director for the Center for Hospital Innovation and Improvement. Currently, Ms. Goldstein provides project management support for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Partnership for Patients initiative.
Prior to joining SHM, Ms. Goldstein worked as a management health care consultant providing support to government clients in project management and evaluation related to clinical and translational research.
She earned her undergraduate degree in political science from the University of Miami and her MA in International Development from the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University.
Senior Project Manager
Ms. Mallouk serves as Senior Project Manager in SHM’s Center for Hospital Innovation and Improvement. She originally joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in its Communications Department in May of 2013. In her role in The Center, she is primarily responsible for managing MARQUIS, SHM’s medication reconciliation mentored implementation program, and I-PASS, a provider hand-offs program.
Prior to joining SHM, Ms. Mallouk worked at the Fairmount Park Conservancy as the Marketing & Membership Manager. She graduated from Cornell University with a B.S. in International Agriculture & Rural Development. She is currently pursuing her MBA part-time at Temple University Fox School of Business with a concentration in Healthcare Management.
Mr. Nyenpan joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in November 2016 and serves as a Project Manager for The Center for Hospital Innovation and Improvement. He is responsible for supporting a variety of quality improvement initiatives at The Center, including the Multi-Center Medication Reconciliation Quality Improvement Study (MARQUIS), I-Pass, and Project BOOST.
Prior to SHM, Mr. Nyenpan earned his undergraduate degree from Temple University, where he majored in Public Health within The Temple University College of Public Health and minored in Business within the Richard J. Fox School of Business and Management.
Ms. Platt joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in December 2015 and serves as a Project Manager for the Center for Innovation and Improvement. She is responsible for supporting quality improvement initiatives in The Center, including the Glycemic Control Program and MARQUIS.
Ms. Platt earned her undergraduate degrees in Anthropology and Writing from Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY and her Masters in Medical Anthropology from the State University of New York at Buffalo in Buffalo, NY.
Senior Project Manager
Mr. Vuernick joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in May of 2016 as a Senior Project Manager for The Center for Hospital Innovation and Improvement. He manages a variety of quality improvement initiatives at The Center with a primary focus on Pain Management programs. Mr. Vuernick also helps to support various SHM programs and committees/subcommittees.
Prior to joining SHM, Mr. Vuernick worked for an AIDS Service Organization as a case manager and case manager coordinator in Philadelphia, PA. He earned his BA in Sociology from Dickinson College and his MPA with a certificate in Nonprofit Administration from West Chester University.
Man(Dan) Chung, PMP
Senior Manager – IT
Mr. Chung joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in April 2009 and serves the Society as its Senior Manager – IT. He is responsible for managing all aspects of web and multi-media based projects, including application and website integration, the implementation of the annual meeting conference app and provide multimedia and interactive development support. He is also responsible for general maintenance and quality assurance of the SHM websites and IT Operations.
Prior to SHM, Mr. Chung worked as a Freelance Graphic Designer for various companies. Mr. Chung earned his Bachelor of Arts in Digital Media at Temple University. He is a member of the Project Management Institute (PMI) and a certified Project Management Professional (PMP).
Junior Web Developer
Mr. Kushner joined Society Hospital of Medicine in June 2015 and serves as the Jr. Web Developer. He is responsible for website creation and maintenance.
Prior to SHM, Mr. Kushner worked as qa/web developer at Comcast. At Comcast he worked in testing and debugging the XFINITY Home application.
IT Support Technician
Jordan Williams joined Society of Hospital Medicine in September of 2014 and serves as the IT Support Technician. He is responsible for providing IT support to the company as well as working on various IT projects within the IT department.
Prior to joining SHM as a full time employee, Jordan was employed at SHM under the co-op program at Drexel University where he provided support to SHM and worked on IT projects. After graduating Drexel University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Technology, he joined SHM as a full time employee.
Editor, Journal of Hospital Medicine

Andrew Auerbach MD MPH is Professor of Medicine at the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine, in the Division of Hospital Medicine, where he is Director of Research for the Division, co-directs the Research Fellowship in General Internal Medicine, and is the Chair of the Clinical Content Oversight Committee for UCSF Medical Center. Dr. Auerbach's past research has focused on evaluation of care delivery models, with a specific emphasis on hospital medicine systems and comanagement systems, as well as methods for improving the measurement of quality of care. Dr. Auerbach's research has been published in prominent journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, Annals of Internal Medicine, and Archives of Internal Medicine. He will be the Editor in Chief of the Journal of Hospital Medicine, beginning in 2012.
Danielle Scheurer, MD, MSCR, FHM
Editor, The Hospitalist
Dr. Scheurer, MD, MSCR, joined the Society of Hospital Medicine in January of 2007 as Web Editor. She is responsible for clinical content for the e-Newsletter, website, and other portions of SHM. Her other editorial roles include Associate Editor of Physicians First Watch.
Dr. Scheurer is also a clinical hospitalist and the Director of General Medical Services at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. She is a graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, completed her residency at Duke University, and completed her Masters in Clinical Research at the Medical University of South Carolina. Her clinical and research interests are the prevention and treatment of nosocomial infections.
