October 24, 2016 – October 24, 2017

Sponsored by Center for Independent Healthcare Education, Vemco MedEd, National Foundation for Infectious Diseases

This program builds awareness of the prevalence of antimicrobial-resistant and MDR P. aeruginosa in US hospitals and the challenges associated with this pathogen. Interprofessional expert faculty Keith S. Kaye, MD, Professor of Medicine, University of Michigan Medical School, and Keith A. Rodvold, PharmD, Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Medicine, University of Illinois at Chicago provide the most up-to-date information on:

  • Epidemiology and burden of P. aeruginosa infections.
  • P. aeruginosa mechanisms of resistance.
  • CDC Patient Safety Atlas data on antimicrobial-resistant P. aeruginosa.
  • In vitro susceptibility data of current antipseudomonal agents.

  • Describe the unique characteristics of P. aeruginosa and the challenges associated with managing serious infections caused by this organism.
  • Identify the various mechanisms utilized by P. aeruginosa that enable this pathogen to exhibit resistance to commonly-used antimicrobial agents.
  • Interpret the latest CDC surveillance data on the prevalence of resistant and multidrug-resistant P. aeruginosa infections at local, regional, and national levels.

Advances in Caring for our Aging Population
July 15, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Professional Education Society

Experience CME in a new way. Join us aboard a luxury cruise ship as we sail around the British Isles. Enjoy plenty of time to relax and take in the sights while visiting London, Dublin, Edinburgh, Amsterdam and much more. The cruise runs from July 15-29th, 2018. The CME program is designed to be accessible and helpful to physicians, dentists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses and other administrative/quality leaders. The program is built upon hospitalist and palliative care provider perspectives, but designed to capture the needs of a much broader base of providers. We will explore practical approaches to bring success to both patients and providers in discussing goals of care, to improve patient satisfaction even in challenging cases and provide an overview of palliative care and hospice applicable to any Provider. Beyond this we will look at some of the evidence around efficient pre-operative evaluation and broader care issues. We'll also throw in a few surprises just for fun. We'll be adding more details via the website in May 2017.

  • To present Providers with evidence and approaches to better assist their patients, especially those of more advanced age, in making decisions regarding basic pre-operative laboratory and cardiac evaluation, Advance Care Planning, Palliative Care, Hospice and other key areas. Particular focus will be given to efficient and effective communication delivered to improve patient satisfaction.
