SHM Signature Programs | Society of Hospital Medicine

The Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM) offers a personalized approach to quality and patient safety through an integrated, comprehensive menu of programs, tools and resources that can be tailored to the specific needs of the institution.

SHM provides opportunities for collaboration as well as solutions and tools to address QI-related challenges. These programs and resources have been built upon the practical experience and field testing of more than 350 front-line improvement teams across the country.

Diverse offerings include:

  • Implementation Toolkits
These toolkits provide a foundation in QI and patient safety fundamentals and step by step instructions on the implementation and evaluation of approaches to reduce harm in a variety of clinical topics.

  • Mentored Implementation Programs (Coaching)
Recipient of 2011 John M. Eisenberg Award for National Innovation in Patient Safety
SHM’s comprehensive suite of Mentored Implementation programs are designed to provide institutions with coaching by national physician expert (mentors) to map current processes, identify root causes of deficiencies and tailor interventions to the unique needs of the institution for sustainable results. Enrolled sites receive full access to a mentor for one year through phone calls and emails, access to the web-based implementation toolkit, online network of participating hospitals and data center for performance tracking.

  • Electronic Quality Improvement Programs (eQUIPS)
Web-based toolkits designed to help jumpstart your quality improvement and patient safety activities in three topic areas: Care Transitions, Glycemic Control and VTE Prevention. Participation in "eQUIPS" provides your institution with the resources necessary to successfully implement a quality intervention at your hospital.
