Instrument used to test attention and immediate recall when there is a clinical suspicion of cognitive impairment or a screening test (e.g.- inability to recall three items after one minute) is positive.

Easy and quick to administer (<5 minutes).  Repeat testing can be useful to monitor patient’s course in Alzheimer’s disease.

Does not test cognitive functions other than attention and immediate recall.
