Instrument used to test multiple cognitive domains when there is a clinical suspicion of cognitive impairment or a screening test (e.g.- inability to recall three items after one minute) is positive.

Widely used and recognized instrument that assesses several cognitive domains.  Repeat testing commonly used to monitor a patient’s course.

Age, education level and cultural background affect the score.  The test may be relatively insensitive measure of cognitive impairment and change over time.  Meaningful result requires scoring all items. Takes 5-10 minutes to administer.
