This scale may be used whenever necessary to determine intensity of pain or monitor effect of prescribed treatment.

Does not rely on physician or nurse assessments that frequently underestimate pain.  Easy and quick to use.

Some patients are not able to use an analog scale or rate their pain.  The face may not reflect the degree of pain.
