The Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM) embraces a “big tent” philosophy that serves and supports the entire hospital medicine team including nurse practitioners, physician assistants, physicians, residents, practice administrators, students and more.

SHM’s NP and PA Special Interest Group was developed to encourage meaningful engagement and collaboration among SHM’s NP and PA member community. Attend live events with focused content on NPs and PAs in hospital medicine
SHM Converge, the largest national hospital medicine educational conference, includes a track for Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants.
SHM also hosts the Adult Hospital Medicine Boot Camp in partnership with the AAPA to provide NPs and PAs with a refresher on the most commonly encountered diagnoses and diseases of adult hospitalized patients. Learn more.

SHM's Statement on Hospital Medicine NP & PA Practice Integration & Optimization outlines and acknowledges that an integrated care model is most effective when all members of the team are working at the top of their license; this allows them to incorporate their skills and training to deliver exceptional care and help reduce the overall cost of care. Downloading is available to all active members of SHM.
