SHM State of Hospital Medicine Survey

The SHM State of Hospital Medicine Survey is conducted bi-annually, typically in the January-March timeframe. The most recent survey was completed in March 2014 and the 2014 State of Hospital Medicine Report is now available.

    • Clinician turnover
    • Staff levels, including use of NPs and PAs
    • Scope of practice and co-management roles
    • Financial support of the practice
    • Performance incentive measures

The State of Hospital Medicine Report merges data from the SHM Survey with data from the MGMA Survey to create an in-depth, comprehensive overview of the current status of hospital medicine in U.S.

MGMA Compensation and Productivity Survey

The annual MGMA Compensation and Productivity Survey is considered by many in the industry as the “gold standard” with regard to data on physician compensation and productivity. The MGMA conducts two surveys annually, one covering academic physician practices and one covering non-academic physician practices. SHM and MGMA have a collaborative relationship and have been supportive of each other's efforts to collect and report comprehensive and accurate survey data. SHM licenses hospitalist data from MGMA which is then integrated into the SHM State of Hospital Medicine Survey Report.
