The purchase of the two Vscan probes will be used to enhance inpatient medical ward care at Botswana-Harvard Health Partnership (BHP) collaborating sites, Scottish Livingstone Hospital and Princess Marina Hospital, by providing medical trainees and supervising doctors from the University of Botswana ready access to point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS).

On-site POCUS capabilities will expedite diagnosis for common acute medical conditions, including pleural and pericardial effusions, pneumothorax, and heart failure, and augment procedural safety. Participating staff from the University of Botswana and BHP are working collaboratively to identify priority POCUS training needs and incorporate these into an integrated curriculum for implementation across both training sites.
