    ULTRASOUND (POCUS)

    SHM is at the forefront of education and training for hospitalists to 
help integrate the use of POCUS at the bedside for diagnosis and procedures. SHM has published several position statements on 
POCUS in hospital medicine and offers training opportunities tailored 
for hospitalists including: Live Interactive Courses: SHM offers in-person training courses including Advanced Learning Courses at our national conference, special events, and educational sessions. Online Training: SHM’s Principles of Point-of-Care Ultrasound series offers hospitalists specialized training to learn key concepts and to confidently recognize normal and abnormal images that inform clinical decision-making for acutely ill patients. Certificate Program: The SHM | CHEST Certificate of Completion (COC) offers pathways for hospitalists to demonstrate their expertise in point-of-care ultrasound. This program offers a comprehensive, hands-on experience to learn the fundamentals of point-of-care ultrasound culminating with a certificate of completion presented by SHM and CHEST.     ADVOCACY & POLICY

    SHM is actively engaged in both legislative and regulatory health
policy, advocating for hospitalists and patients to improve practice environments and the delivery of exceptional care. In addition to our work on Capitol Hill, we support members to advance policy discussions on a local level.     Hospitalists are among the six specialties experiencing levels of burnout. SHM regularly assesses the rates of physician wellness and fulfillment among hospitalists and provides resources with actionable strategies to shed light on these issues and offer ways to improve the experience for frontline hospitalists.
