The Hospital Medicine Workforce Experience Survey explores the perceptions of hospitalists on perceptions of their work environment.  The Survey and Report play an important role in connecting SHM with our members.  The Report elevates issues that are important to hospitalists across the country and helps us all improve the sustainability of the workforce.

2026 Report

The 2026 Hospital Medicine Workforce Experience Report will be published later this summer and will examine issues such as well-being and burnout, workload and autonomy, workplace violence, leadership support, and more.

The Hospital Medicine Workforce Experience Data Addendum is a supplement to the Report for those that want to dig deeper into the data. It includes detailed tables on participant demographics, burnout and professional fulfillment, percentage of time dedicated to clinical work, patient census and safety, and leadership support.

Hospital Medicine Workforce Experience Report 2023

The 2023 data was initially published with the 2023 State of Hospital Medicine Report.  The Report examines issues such as patient census, paid time off and benefits, and backup systems.
