Vaccines are built on rigorous research, have been thoroughly studied, and have the backing of a solid scientific consensus. The Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM) affirmed its confidence in the American Academy of Pediatrics 2026 childhood vaccine schedule earlier this year. The AAP vaccine schedule is rooted in science, evidence, and the best interest of keeping America’s children healthy. We stand by that position and reaffirm the safety and efficacy of vaccines to prevent disease and death. Yesterday’s Executive Order overriding the childhood vaccine schedule has none of these characteristics, injects politics and uncertainty into the public health discourse, and puts children’s lives at risk. We urge parents to discuss questions about vaccines and vaccine safety with their child’s physician.
