Executive Leadership
Eric Howell, MD, MHM - Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Eric E. Howell, MD, MHM is the CEO of the Society of Hospital Medicine.
Prior to his role as SHM CEO in July of 2020, Dr. Howell was faculty at the Johns Hopkins University, School of Medicine for twenty years. At Johns Hopkins, he held the rank of Professor of Medicine and at the time of his departure held numerous leadership titles including Chief of the Division of Hospital Medicine at Johns Hopkins Bayview, Section Chief for Hospital Medicine at Johns Hopkins Community Physicians, Vice-Chair for Inpatient Quality at Johns Hopkins Bayview, and Co-Chair of the Associate Professors Promotion Committee for the School of Medicine.
Dr. Howell trained for his Electrical Engineering Degree at the University of Maryland at College Park in 1992 and received his MD degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 1996. He completed Internal Medicine residency at Johns Hopkins Bayview where he spent an additional year as Chief Resident. Upon completing residency in 2000, Dr. Howell remained at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine for twenty years, becoming Professor of Medicine in 2016.
During his tenure at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Howell received numerous awards and accolades inside and outside of the University. These include the Johns Hopkins “Professor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching”, the Society of Hospital Medicine’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, and the Johns Hopkins Bayview Armstrong Award for Excellence in Quality and Safety. For his recognition as a clinician of excellence, Johns Hopkins inducted Dr. Howell in the Johns Hopkins Miller-Coulson Academy of Clinical Excellence in 2010. For his numerous contributions to hospital medicine, both inside and outside of SHM, Dr. Howell was selected as a Master of Hospital Medicine by SHM in 2016.
Since 2000 Dr. Howell’s professional home has been the Society of Hospital Medicine. Prior to becoming CEO, his contributions as an SHM member include the Leadership Academies where he has played important roles since the inception, including developing the Academies in 2004, faculty since inception, and most recently as Course Director. Dr. Howell was on the Board of Directors from 2009-2015 and served as Board President. Dr. Howell helped build SHM’s Center for Quality Improvement where he helped garner millions of dollars in funding and provided clinical expertise. From 2018-2020, Eric Howell was the Chief Operating Officer for SHM, while maintaining full-time faculty roles at Johns Hopkins.
Joshua Boswell, JD - Chief Legal Officer
Year I started at SHM: 2010
My role at
SHM: I oversee the strategic development,
implementation and administration of SHM’s government
relations goals. Major elements of this position include directing
committee functions, volunteer and professional advocacy efforts;
and managing activities related to the development, implementation
and budgeting of SHM’s government relations efforts. As
General Counsel, I also support the overall legal needs of SHM.
Prior to joining SHM, I served on the staff of a Pennsylvania
State Senator, worked in private practice as an associate attorney
and served in the United States Army. Josh earned a BA in Political
Science from the University of Pittsburgh and his JD from Ohio
Northern University.
What I like most about my
job: Working directly with our members on issues that
are important to them. I learn something new every day.
Fun fact: I’m the proud father of 3
girls. The two youngest are twins.
Tommy George - Chief Operating Officer
Year I started at SHM: 2017
My role at
SHM: With more than 20 years of experience in
supporting technology, I have managed IT globally in both for-profit
and not-for-profit environments, supporting offices in the US,
Switzerland, and Japan for association management organizations.
I’m very passionate about technology and enjoy the challenge
of finding ways to leverage it to advance and streamline business
processes. Over the years, I have achieved many certifications in
technology, including Project Management Professional (PMP),
Networking, Systems, and Security.
What I like most
about my job: Having spent the first half of my career
in the USAF (retired), I learned to embrace change and adjust to new
opportunities day to day. SHM is constantly evolving to meet the
changing needs of its members, and the opportunity to be a part of
that with the SHM team is very exciting. I look forward to learning,
growing with and embracing the SHM culture.
Fun
fact: I’m a sports fanatic and love to play any
sport at any time. In bowling, I’ve rolled a perfect game. In
baseball, I was a walk-on tryout for the Atlanta Braves many years
ago. Golf is my current endeavor with no hole-in-one yet, but I will
keep trying!
Jenna Goldstein - Chief of Staff

My role at
SHM: In my role, I oversee operations, strategic
planning and business development for The Center. Prior to joining
SHM, I was a management consultant supporting clients at the
National Institutes of Health and the Veteran’s
Administration. I hold a Master’s Degree in International
Development from the Heller School of Social Policy at Brandeis
University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from
the University of Miami.
What I like most about my
job: I enjoy working with hospitalists who are
passionate about improving patient outcomes.

fact: When not at work, I am spending time at home with
my two dogs.
Nick Marzano, MEd, CAE - Chief of Strategy
Year I started at SHM: 2011
My role at
SHM: As Chief of Strategy I serve as consultant and
facilitator to the executive team on operational strategy, and work
with CEO and leadership to engage board in strategic thinking and
planning. I am also responsible for the strategy, execution, and
success of SHM’s continuing medical education program. I
earned my Masters in Education from Penn State and have over fifteen

What I like most about my job: The
collaborative nature of the work, inside and outside the office. I
love working with our committee volunteers and subject matter
experts. They are incredibly talented and passionate about moving
the specialty forward. Inside SHM’s walls, it’s great to
work with so many “doers” who put member needs first and
look beyond department walls for innovative solutions.
Fun fact: I’m learning to play the
mandolin as part of my 50-point plan to becoming an old Italian
grandpa.
Joi Seabrooks, PHR - Senior Vice President HR People and Culture
Year I started at SHM: 2006
My role at SHM: I am responsible
for all aspects of human resources at SHM, including
employee relations, benefits management, recruitment,
retention and training, and development. I am a member
of the Society of Human Resources Management and
received my Master Certification in Human Resources
Management in 2010 from Villanova University. In 2011, I
earned my Professional in Human Resources Certification
from the HR Certification Institute.
What
I like most about my job: Working with the
great employees at SHM.
Fun fact:
I love being a mom to my daughter and my doggie
daughter.

Year I started at SHM: 2010
My
role at SHM: As Senior Vice President of
Finance, I perform the closing of the monthly results,
budget variances and preparation of financial analysis.
Prior to joining SHM, I was a Client Accounting Manager at
Vox Medica, a healthcare Marketing Agency in Philadelphia. I
earned my BA in Communications at Rowan University.

Amanda McGill - Business Development Specialist
Year I started at SHM: 2024
My role at
SHM: As SHM’s Business Development Specialist, I
work with the Business Development team to cultivate relationships,
ensure partner engagement, and identify business opportunities for
SHM to meet organizational goals. Before joining SHM, I was the
Development and Marketing Manager for Bucks County Housing Group and
worked in grant writing and copywriting-focused roles. I graduated
Cum Laude from Temple University with a Bachelor of Arts in English
and Environmental Studies.
What I like most about my
job: I love engaging with partners to bring them into
SHM’s mission and working with the kind and talented team
here.
Fun fact: I climbed windmills in
Denmark and Germany as part of a Renewable Energy class!

Lisa Kroll - Associate Director, Member and Volunteer Engagement
Year I started at SHM: 2014
My
role at SHM: I oversee all aspects of member
engagement including SHM’s chapter program, special
interest groups, volunteer engagement opportunities, and the
Hospital Medicine Exchange (HMX). I am actively pursuing a
Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation. Prior to
SHM, I served as an Associate Director with Fernley &
Fernley, Inc., working with both professional and trade
associations for several years. I received my B.S. in
Business Administration from John L. Grove College of
Business at Shippensburg University.
What I
like most about my job: It’s inspiring to
be surrounded by passionate colleagues, volunteer leaders,
and members each day that have a true dedication to moving
the specialty forward.
Fun fact: I
love spending time and getting outside with my two boys
(only 14 months apart!) and my Mini goldendoodle, Zoey.
Anna Pugsley Koh - Volunteer Engagement Specialist
Year I started at SHM: 2025
My
role at SHM: I collaborate with both volunteers
and staff to coordinate volunteer engagement efforts among
our members, with the aim that all parties have the
resources and support they need. I have a background in
policy research and nearly 10 years in community and
political organizing and am a graduate of the University of
Pennsylvania.
What I like most about my
job: The balance and professionalism, along
with supporting communities of hospitalists. It's meaningful
work I'm glad to be a part of.
Fun
Fact: I love spaces with lots of greenery.
Botanical gardens, city parks, forests, anything in between.
Mountains are nice but wetlands are better. Extra points for
marsh boardwalks.
Ray Johnson - Manager, Chapters
Year I started at SHM: 2018
My
role at SHM: I am responsible for maintaining
relationships with all Chapters and providing guidance and
support to carry out the SHM mission on the local level. I
manage a variety of individual chapter projects through the
Chapter Initiative Fund, facilitate annual chapter
leadership elections, conduct leadership trainings, and
formulate a flow of communication between leaders and other
staff members to ensure events are executed successfully.
Prior to joining SHM, I worked at an international law firm
where I handled the marketing operations at three East Coast
offices. I graduated from Drexel University with a
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing.
What I
like most about my job: The Chapters program is
growing and evolving rapidly, and it's exciting to be a part
of it.
Fun Fact: I enjoy getting out
of the city to go hiking and camping with my dog, Bruce.

Jan Bowman - Director of Education
Year I started at SHM: 2012
My
role at SHM: I manage our online Learning Portal
and work as the staff liaison for the Research, Innovations, and
Vignettes (RIV) Scientific Abstract Competition. I have been
working in the field of eLearning for over 15 years and really
enjoy the blend of technology and design.
What I
like most about my job: Finding solutions to
problems that pop up – it’s like solving a puzzle.
Fun fact: Outside of the office, I am a
potter and screen printer.
Sylvia DeSantis - Associate Director, Education
Year I started at SHM: 2021
My
role at SHM: As Associate Director of the Education
Team, my primary responsibilities lie in overseeing SHM’s
national accreditation status. I hold a Master’s in
English/Women’s Studies from VA Tech and have over 25
years’ experience in the development and delivery of
online learning. This experience aids me in my work with
physician subject experts with whom I create innovative and
cogent eLearning products.
What I like most about
my job: As a lifelong academic, I really appreciate
SHM’s commitment to educational quality, not just in
product but also in process. Peopled with the most committed
talent, from employees to volunteers, faculty to subject matter
experts, the SHM team works collaboratively to advance the state
of the art in hospital medicine, and I’m excited to be a
part of this mindset.
Fun fact: I’m
a drummer, and in 2019 met one of my total grunge idols. I was
neither calm nor cool.
Mary Gomez - Education Project Manager
Year I started at SHM: 2019
My
role at SHM: As a member of the Education team, my
main priority is building out the SHM Consults and working on
the administrative end on SHM’s Learning Portal. I am also
here to answer members’ questions about the platform,
whether it is by phone or email. My last role was at U.S.
Vision, where I maintained the company’s e-learning
platform for their retail associates and created/distributed
communications internally and externally. I attended Rutgers
University-New Brunswick, where I earned my B.A. in English and
minor in Education.
What I like most about my
job: I loved collaborating with people who are
dedicated to making a difference! I know that when I enter the
office, I am working for an organization where my projects and
responsibilities have a purpose and will help others.
Fun fact: I am a runner! I participate in
races all year round, from holiday-themed 5ks to marathons.
Philadelphia holds a special place in my heart – not only
do I get to work in the “City of Brotherly Love,”
but I ran my first marathon here!
Peter St. Michael - Education Project Manager

My
role at SHM: As Education Project Manager, I am and
responsible for managing SHM’s Digital Learning library,
ensuring that all of our courses are available and accessible to
members. I also assist and support in multiple projects across
the Education Team.
What I like most about my
job: Knowing that my work supports hospitalists and
healers across the country.
Fun fact: One
of my hobbies is solving exotic Rubik’s cubes. The most
difficult cube I’ve solved was a 13x13x13 Rubik’s
cube.

Marlene Scully - Staff Accountant
Staff Accountant

role at SHM: I am responsible for all accounts
payable and receivable for the Society of Hospital Medicine.
I also contribute to month-end close and daily cash
reconciliation. I have previously worked as a substitute
elementary teacher for 6 years.
What I like
most about my job: I enjoy the fact that I get
to work with every single department on a regular basis.
Fun fact: I currently serve as the
vice president of a competitive youth cheerleading
organization; I have also been coaching for 7 years, winning
numerous national titles. I live in New Jersey with my
husband and three children.
Monique Williams - Accounting Coordinator

My
role at SHM: I provide financial administrative
and clerical support to the organization within the
accounting department. I am responsible for all incoming
invoices that require payment to be made. As well as
tracking budget expenses, vendor relationships, data entry,
and analyzing financial information.
What I
like most about my job: I love the relaxed and
productive atmosphere at SHM. I also enjoy the versatility
of being able to do a variety of tasks.

Joshua Lapps - Director of Policy and Practice Management
Year I started at SHM: 2012
My role at SHM: I work on federal
healthcare policy for SHM, particularly on
pay-for-performance and quality measurement programs
under Medicare. Prior to my work at SHM, I worked with
nonprofit and community organizations on issues of
health and health access and participated in health
policy and community-based research. I have a BS in
Bioethics from Dickinson College and an MA in Health
Advocacy from Sarah Lawrence College.
What
I like most about my job: Being able to
collaborate with many different people and organizations
both inside and outside SHM.
Fun
fact: I accidentally stumbled across a
French presidential campaign rally in Paris and it was
one of the most insightful experiences I’ve ever
had.
Communications
Brett Radler - Director of Communications
Year I started at SHM: 2015
My
role at
SHM: At SHM, I develop and oversee the
organization’s communications strategy across all
channels,
including public and media relations, digital media and
SHM’s
portfolio of publications: The Hospitalist, the
Journal
of Hospital Medicine and The Hospital
Leader blog.
Along with the Communications team, I collaborate with
staff
and
members to craft and disseminate key messages to tell
the
story of
hospitalists and hospital medicine to a variety of
audiences. I
graduated from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ
with
a
Bachelor’s Degree in Communication.
What
I like
most about my job: Aside from working with
some
of the
most energetic, motivated and talented people I have
ever
met, I
love seeing my work translate into success for SHM and
its
members
– all while helping to raise the profile of the
work
hospitalists are doing to the healthcare community and
general
public. I also enjoy meeting and interacting with our
inspiring,
brilliant members in the process.

Dan Chung, PMP, SMC - Director of Information Technology
Year I started at SHM: 2009
My role at SHM: I oversee the web
development and IT infrastructure, working with the team
to provide support for company wide web and multimedia
projects, including custom application development,
website integration, and conference app development. I
am also responsible for general maintenance and quality
assurance of the SHM websites and co-manage the
day-to-day IT operations.
Prior to SHM, I worked
as a freelance designer for various companies. I earned
my Bachelor of Arts in Digital Media at Temple
University and have been a member of the Project
Management Institute (PMI) and certified Project
Management Professional (PMP) since 2015; in spring of
2018 acquired the Scrum Master Certified (SMC)
designation. I am actively pursuing a Certified Lean Six
Sigma Black Belt designation.
What I like
most about my job: I enjoy having the
freedom to try out new things and be around such a
high-energy group of colleagues that I often call work
family.
Fun fact: I spend most of
my weekends on open roads as a cyclist. My favorite
getaway city is Toronto, Canada.
Jake Persofsky - Enterprise Application Architect
Year I started at SHM: 2017
My role at SHM: I am responsible
for building and maintaining websites and web-based
functionality. I also assist with IT operations.
Prior to SHM, I was an independent consultant for
many years providing IT solutions to small and
medium-sized businesses.
What I like most
about my job: I get interesting challenges
on a pretty regular basis and get to propose and
implement the solutions.
Fun fact:
I have been a professional keyboardist for most
of my adult life and toured in the United States, Europe
and Australia.
Heidi Bischoff - Senior Data Architect
Year I started at SHM:
2015
My role at SHM: In my
position with the IT department I work on a variety of
projects that support programs and initiatives across
the organization. I had a lead role in SHM’s
migration to an industry-leading AMS product and I
continue to collaborate on could-based and on-premise
solutions for our organization. My responsibilities
include comprehensive reporting and analysis,
maintaining key applications and customizations, and
providing support and recommendations for SHM’s
strategic goals.
Prior to my work at SHM, I have
worked in IT in a range of organizational settings, from
small non-profits and for-profits to a large university.
What I like most about my job: I
find the people who work at SHM to be incredibly smart,
kind, collaborative, and passionate about supporting the
mission of SHM to promote the field and improve patient
outcomes. It is very rewarding to be a part of such a
positive and innovative team.
Fun fact:
I love spending time with family and friends;
and whether I’m walking the dog, camping with my
kids, or running in the park, I am happiest when I am
outdoors.
Marikay Brown - Senior Manager Facilities/Desktop Services
Year I started at SHM: 2004
My role at SHM: As SHM’s
Office Manager, I work with both HR and the IT
Department to ensure everything in the office runs
smoothly. I also oversee all facilities-related
projects. This past year, I managed the construction of
a new conference room and am currently involved in a
telecommunications upgrade.
What I like
most about my job: I enjoy working with
vendors and staff to create a safe and positive office
environment.
Fun fact: I love
spending my free time with family and friends, cooking
on Sundays and watching football – especially the
Philadelphia Eagles! E-A-G-L-E-S!!!
Avi Silverberg - Senior Desktop Support Engineer
Year I started at SHM: 2022
My role at SHM: I’m an IT
veteran of 20+ years. I got my feet wet while working as
an IT consultant/tech for one of the most successful
brick and mortar IT service providers to come from
Philadelphia. In 2011, I moved into the corporate IT
world and have since provided support for the
Healthcare/Mobile Radiology, Law, Real Estate, and
Financial fields.
At The Society of Hospital
Medicine, I make sure that our members and staff have
top notch technical support which in turn helps to
enhance treatments and outcomes for those that need the
care that Hospitalists provide on a daily basis.
What I like most about my job:
Every aspect of it. SHM is a wonderful organization from
top to bottom. From its core values, to my user base, to
my team, this is the place that I call my professional
family and home.
Fun fact:
I’m a trivia junkie. I enjoy geography, astronomy,
and biology. I’m a proud dad and my son Logan is
my little goofball and the light of my life!
Kyle Dolphin - Web Operations Specialist
Year I started at SHM: 2024
My
role at SHM: I am responsible for ensuring the
creation, maintaining, and updating of websites and
web-based functionality across SHM’s digital
platforms. My position also allows me to work
collaboritavely across the IT and Marketing departments, in
order to assist in any web-related projects. Prior to SHM, I
was a student at Drexel University studying User Experience
and Interaction Design, which is where I got the chance to
intern at SHM throughout the second half of 2023.
What I like most about my job: Many
tasks and issues have really unique solutions, which makes
the day-to-day really interesting because the work never
becomes monotonous. Since it's always changing, I am forced
to keep up with the industry, which keeps me interested.
Fun fact: I pole vaulted through high
school and secured a personal best of 11 feet, which I was
and still am very proud of. Aside from this, I have grown to
enjoy breaking-down and analyzing TV and film. My favorite
story of all time, and it will never be close, is One Piece.

Kimberly Schonberger - Associate Director of Brand & Program Marketing

role at SHM: I provide day-to-day leadership in
the development of strategy, tactical plans and program
evaluation for SHM’s Center for Quality Improvement,
Practice Management and Advocacy portfolios. I also help
oversee the marketing strategy for our membership. Prior to
SHM, I worked as a Senior Marketing Manager for several
years at a medical publication company, Wolters Kluwer
Health and spent a few years in legal publications for LRP.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Marketing from
Pennsylvania State University.
What I like
most about my job: The team and staff that I
work with on a daily basis as well as knowing what I am
doing is ultimately improving the quality of healthcare for
the hospitalized patient.
Fun fact: I
am a closet Disney fan (guess not anymore). I enjoy spending
vacations with my family on Disney cruises or in Disney
World.
Dana Greene - Associate Director of Content & Marketing Strategy
Year I started at SHM: 2017
My
role at SHM: I joined SHM’s Marketing and
Communications team to help retain and grow membership.
I’ve worked as a marketer for consumer and medical
publishing companies for most of my career. My last role was
at Hearst Magazines, where I managed retention efforts as a
Customer Relationship Manager. I attended Hampton University
as an undergraduate, earning a B.A. in English Arts and
later studied at The New School where I earned an M.A. in
Media Studies.
What I like most about my
job: I work on a truly remarkable team where
all ideas are welcomed and everyone searches for solutions
when challenges arise.
Fun fact:
I’m a media junkie. I love podcasts and documentaries
and have even tried to make both with varying degrees of
success.
Bridget Bagnell - Marketing Specialist
Year I started at SHM: 2021
My
role at SHM: As the Marketing Specialist at
SHM, I work with the Marketing department and other internal
departments to increase membership acquisition, retention,
and engagement. I also assist with creating and enhancing
marketing efforts. Prior to joining SHM, I was the Marketing
Specialist for a Contract Development and Manufacturing
Organization (CDMO) in Northeast Philadelphia where I
planned & executed all marketing initiatives while
supporting the Business Development team. I attended West
Chester University where I earned a B.S. in Marketing.
What I like most about my job: The
people that I work with at SHM. It is rewarding to
collaborate and work closely with people who also want to
work towards the same goal of improving hospital medicine.
Fun fact: In my free time, I love to
practice yoga and travel. I also volunteer with the American
Marketing Association (Philadelphia Chapter) on the
Programming Committee.
Jackie Fickner - Marketing Traffic Specialist
Year I started at SHM: 2019
My
role at SHM: My role is to oversee the
team’s project management and work closely with the
design staff on trafficking projects, completing marketing
administrative projects, obtaining quotes from vendors for
printing and promotional orders, helping with the creation
of emails and coordinating promotional materials for
external meetings.
What I like most about my
job: I love that everyone shares the same
vision and is dedicated to the mission of SHM.
Fun fact: I was born at a bus stop
(in an ambulance).
Mariam Talakhadze - Digital Marketing and Email Automation Specialist
Year I started at SHM: 2019
My
role at SHM: I work with the Marketing team in
managing and improving our emails, paid media, and web while
utilizing new technology, research, and the data available
to deliver content our members are interested in. I also
help create videos where we spotlight SHM members or events
on our social media channels. While working at SHM as an
intern, I attended Drexel University and graduated in 2021
with a BSBA in Marketing and a minor in Psychology.
What I like most about my job: I'm
constantly learning new things, even after being here for
many years! It's easy when you have a talented team but your
side. I love when we put our creative minds together and
come up with innovative ideas and solutions. I've never met
a group of people so dedicated and skilled!
Fun fact: I can play six musical
instruments ... can't play them well, but practice makes
perfect!

What I like most about my job: I love
working with the team of incredibly kind and talented

What I like most about my job:
I’m passionate about transforming ideas from concept
to design, enhancing the SHM brand, and furthering the
mission of improving hospital medicine. I also thoroughly

Fun fact: In
my free time, I enjoy playing golf. Last summer, I had the
incredible opportunity to visit Scotland and play at the
Royal Troon Golf Club, which hosted the British Open.
Meetings
Jade Myers - Director of Meetings
Year I started at SHM: 2010
My
role at SHM: I am responsible for the
management of the Academic Hospitalist Academy (AHA) and the
Quality and Safety Educators Academy (QSEA). I also manage
the logistics for Pediatric Hospital Medicine (PHM) on
SHM’s host years, and provide logistical support to
our annual conference, overseeing its associated pre-courses
and strategizing our onsite presence through event signage.
While my expertise is in logistical management, I also have
the privilege of working with both staff and volunteer
leaders to prioritize the needs of our academic
constituency. Prior to joining SHM, I was employed by
Seraphin Gallery, while earning by Bachelor of Science at
Drexel University’s Westphal College of Media Arts and
Design.
What I like most about my
job: : I love working with such impassioned
staff and volunteers, and knowing that each project is an
important cog in the movement of hospital medicine.
Fun fact: I enjoy travelling around
the world but I am an aviophobe. It is a goal of mine to
learn more about flying in an effort to curb the fear!
Brittany Evans - Associate Director of Meetings
Year I started at SHM: 2014
My
role at SHM: In my role, I manage the faculty
and development of content for SHM’s Annual
Conference. I work with the Annual Conference Committee to
select diverse influential speakers as well as choose
significant topics for our didactic, workshop and pre-course
sessions. In preparation, I also collaborate with internal
SHM departments to ensure the conference is marketed
appropriately while finding new features to offer.
I
attended York College of Pennsylvania where I earned my BA
in Mass Communications with a minor in Speech
Communications. Prior to working for SHM, I was a Key
Account Executive in the Advertising department for Gannett.
What I like most about my job: I love
seeing 12 months of planning come to life at the Annual
Conference and finally getting to meet the speakers and
committee members that I have been telecommunicating with
all year. Overall, the Annual Conference brings reassurance
that what I do is not only necessary and important for our
members but it is appreciated.
Fun
fact: I love to cook, read food blogs and watch
all food network shows! Basically I am a huge foodie.
Samantha Regosch - Senior Meetings Manager
Year I started at SHM: originally 2013 with
a 5+ year stint outside of SHM (2018-2023), restarting in
2023.
My role at SHM: I will be
coordinating the logistics for many of the live events that
SHM hosts including PHM during host years, as well as events
at Converge. Prior to re-joining SHM, I was an Account
Executive for Shepard Exposition Services, working on 12
– 15 small to large-scale conventions, expos, and
events each year.
What I like most about my
job: Working with passionate colleagues, both
staff and volunteers, to advance hospital medicine education
through live meetings. I love that the work I’ll be
doing has a direct impact on the experience of hospital
medicine practitioners at SHM live events.
Fun
fact: I love building Lego sets, specifically
Disney or Star Wars sets!
Hayleigh Scott - Manager, Meetings
Year I started at SHM: 2017
My
role at SHM: I manage the Converge speaker
management system, Converge content submission portal, as
well as assist in the management of content and faculty for
Converge. I oversee Converge Advanced Learning Courses
including managing faculty and facilitators, content
materials, and equipment acquisition. Additionally, I manage
the content and faculty for the Pediatric Hospital Medicine
conference, lead the development of all mobile apps for SHM
conferences, as well as maintain relationships with external
vendors. Before my time at SHM, I worked as an elementary
educator in Philadelphia.
I have volunteer experience
with THON at Penn State, medical missions in the Dominican
Republic and local groups for cancer research and
development.
I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in
Childhood and Early Adolescent Education from Penn State
University.
What I like most about my
job: I love working alongside my dedicated team
to produce both educational and memorable conferences for
all our volunteers, members, and attendees.
Fun fact: After finishing my SHM
workday, I spend my nights teaching a variety of dance
styles to 2–6-year-olds.
Samantha Bono - Meetings Administrator
Year I started at SHM: 2024
My
role at SHM: I support both members and
non-members interested in SHM’s live meetings,
providing expert guidance and ensuring a smooth experience.
In collaboration with the SHM team, I contribute to the
successful management of signature programs such as the
Leadership Academy, SHM Converge, and the Pediatric Hospital
Medicine Conference (PHM). My responsibilities include
overseeing Abstracts and Conundrums, as well as Awards for
PHM.
What I like most about my job:
Working with passionate people on all levels, and seeing all
of the puzzle pieces to come together, all in an effort to
make every hospital visit a little better.

Membership
Kimberly Russell, CAE - Associate Director, Membership
Year I started at SHM: 2012
My
role at SHM: I oversee SHM member recruitment
and retention, customer service, and data governance. Before
SHM, I worked for a newspaper, a medical publisher, and a
handful of retail establishments. I graduated from Rowan
University with a BA in Communications and in January of
2022 I earned my CAE designation. I also volunteer with ASAE
and its local organization, MASAE.
What I like
most about my job: We give our members a place
to learn, to gather, and to share their good days and bad
with a group who understands the unique challenges of being
a hospitalist. And no matter what our role is at SHM, at the
end of the day our work results in somebody's loved one
having a better experience in a hospital.
Fun
fact: I and my husband regularly dress as
Marion Ravenwood and her flighty boyfriend Indiana Jones at
Walt Disney World's Halloween parties.
Doreatha Robinson - Manager of Member Relations
Year I started at SHM: 2010
My
role at SHM: I own many operational and
customer service functions that are foundational to the
member experience. Further, I manage essential vendor
relationships that facilitate our retention program and
handle all group billing, which represents a larger portion
of our membership revenue each year.
Prior to joining
SHM, I worked as a Senior Member Services Representative at
Independence Blue Cross. I have completed courses at Drexel
University and have earned an Associate's Degree in Business
Administration from the Community College of Philadelphia.
What I like most about my job: I
enjoy interacting and providing excellent customer service
to our members and vendors.
Kristy Williams - Senior Membership Support Specialist
Year I started at SHM: 2013
My
role at SHM: At SHM, I oversee the Fellows Designation Program, which provides hospitalists with a meaningful pathway to earn credentials that distinguish them as leaders in the field of hospital medicine. I also serve as the liaison for the Fellows Selection Committee, ensuring alignment and support throughout the selection process. In addition, I manage key vendor relationships that support the valuable membership benefits we offer. I actively contribute to SHM’s Membership Department, assisting with recruitment and retention efforts, handling member and customer inquiries, and processing a wide range of membership transactions. Prior to joining SHM, I spent over seven years in the healthcare industry, working in various customer and staff support roles. I hold a B.S. in Elementary Education/Early Childhood Development from Temple University.
What I like most about my job: I genuinely enjoy connecting with our members and delivering exceptional service. It's especially rewarding to lead the Fellows Program and witness its continued growth—watching hospitalists achieve a prestigious milestone in recognition of their commitment to advancing hospital medicine and improving patient care.
Fun fact: I love traveling to places where I can watch the sunset while listening to the soothing sound of the ocean.
Shakiyah Boyd - Membership Services Coordinator
Year I started at SHM: 2025
My role at SHM: As a Membership Services Coordinator, I’m the first point of contact for SHM members and prospective members. I handle daily calls and emails, process membership applications and payments, update member records, and help resolve account or access questions. I also support the Membership team by routing inquiries, assisting with projects and events, and making sure every member interaction is smooth and positive.
What I like most about my job: Helping members feel supported and making their experience with SHM seamless, plus working with such a welcoming, collaborative team.
Fun fact: I was an extra in the movie Creed 2.
Practice Management
Joshua Lapps - Director of Policy and Practice Management
Year I started at SHM: 2012
My
role at SHM: I work on federal healthcare
policy for SHM, particularly on pay-for-performance and
quality measurement programs under Medicare. Prior to my
work at SHM, I worked with nonprofit and community
organizations on issues of health and health access and
participated in health policy and community-based research.
I have a BS in Bioethics from Dickinson College and a MA in
Health Advocacy from Sarah Lawrence College.
What I like most about my job: Being
able to collaborate with many different people and
organizations both inside and outside SHM.
Fun
fact: I accidentally stumbled across a French
presidential campaign rally in Paris and it was one of the
most insightful experiences I’ve ever had.
Teresa Caponiti - Practice Management Manager
Year I started at SHM: 2019
My
role at SHM: I am responsible for the strategic
and day to day management of the Society’s practice
management program, which focuses on the business and
operational elements of hospital medicine. I work with staff
and volunteers to grow the visibility and impact of the
Practice Management department, while providing strategic
leadership over the future of the department and its
projects.
What I like most about my
job: I enjoy working with such motivated
colleagues and with our members, who are so passionate about
the care of their patients. I learn something new every day.
Fun fact: After graduating college, I
moved to Prague and taught English for two years. The
experience was transformative, and I met my husband while
living there.
SHM's Center for Quality Improvement
Jenna Goldstein - Chief of Staff
Year I started at SHM: 2012
My
role at SHM: In my role, I oversee operations,
strategic planning and business development for The Center.
Prior to joining SHM, I was a management consultant
supporting clients at the National Institutes of Health and
the Veteran’s Administration. I hold a Master’s
Degree in International Development from the Heller School
of Social Policy at Brandeis University and a
Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the
University of Miami.
What I like most about my
job: I enjoy working with hospitalists who are
passionate about improving patient outcomes.
Fun fact: When not at work, I am
spending time at home with my two dogs.
April Fegley - Senior Project Manager
Year I started at SHM: 2018
My role at SHM: In my role, I
collaborate with SHM staff and hospital medicine
professionals to help hospitalists drive quality
improvement in their institutions. One of the key
programs I have worked on includes I-PASS, a mentored
implementation program focused on improving patient
safety by reducing miscommunication during patient
handoffs.
What I like most about my
job: Working in SHM’s Center for
Quality Improvement really affords me the opportunity to
have a tangible impact not only in the work that SHM
does but in the work that our members are doing to
improve care for hospitalized patients.
Fun fact: I enjoy gardening and
beekeeping with my husband and am a self-proclaimed
cardboard engineer – I am convinced that I can
make just about anything with some decent cardboard and
roll of duct tape.
Sara Platt - Project Manager
Year I started at SHM: 2015
My role at SHM: I manage
SHM’s Center for Quality Improvement programs on
glycemic control to help hospitals track their rates of
hyper- and hypoglycemia via internal and external
comparative data benchmarking. Our goal is to provide
hospitals with the tools and information to improve
their glycemic control best practices. I have a Masters
in Medical Anthropology from University at Buffalo and
Bachelors in Anthropology and Writing from Ithaca
College.
What I like most about my
job: Getting to work with hospitals and
teams from across the country.
Fun
fact: I’m an aerialist.
