The Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM) is a medical society comprised of hospitalists that exists to promote exceptional care for hospitalized patients.
Introducing a new volunteer opportunity for SHM members.
SHM’s mission is to serve as the professional home for hospitalists, offering members avenues to nurture their interests, share their expertise, and engage with their community to tackle the challenges they face in their daily practice.
To further this mission, SHM is introducing a new opportunity for members to increase their involvement with SHM leadership and fellow members. SHM Advisory Councils are volunteer groups assembled around key constituencies within our membership. These Advisory Councils will meet directly with SHM’s CEO and leadership team to share their perspectives on key initiatives, critical topics, and issues affecting hospitalists and the delivery of care.

Advisory Councils will hold two virtual meetings annually where participants will contribute their insights and ideas on important topics facilitated by SHM’s leadership team.
Advisory Council positions are open to all active SHM members. Advisory Councils are designed to amplify member voices and offer new opportunities to engage with colleagues and the SHM team.
Members are not eligible to participate in an Advisory Council if they are currently serving on a Committee.
Individuals who are interested in applying to serve on an SHM Advisory Council must complete an application to be considered. The application process is simple and requires applicants to provide basic demographic information and express their interest in a specific Advisory Council. Applicants may select only one Advisory Council for consideration. A CV or COI form is not required. Completing the application should take just 5-10 minutes.

Advisory Council applications open in the fall for the term beginning the following spring during the Converge annual conference. Mark your calendars with these important dates regarding the inaugural term for Advisory Councils. Members will receive email notifications with program updates and deadline reminders.
