The Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM) will welcome its annual conference, SHM Converge, to Austin, TX, from March 26-29, 2023, with world-class education for hospitalists led by award-winning faculty. The conference will include 106 didactic sessions, 19 workshops, and 4 advanced learning courses, formerly known as pre-courses.

“Everyone thoroughly enjoyed reconnecting with our hospital medicine community last year, and we could not be more excited for what awaits us in Austin at SHM Converge 2023,” says Dr. Eric Howell, SHM Chief Executive Officer. “This is the perfect opportunity to reunite, learn, and network, all while keeping a finger on the pulse on the evolving field of hospital medicine.”

SHM Converge 2023 will feature a keynote from internationally touring standup comedian, Thom Tran. He is a first-generation American immigrant who has performed in over 20 countries and 35 states for U.S. service-members, an actor who has appeared on the ABC comedy Black-ish and the CBS drama SEAL Team, and a Purple Heart recipient and combat-wounded veteran of the U.S. Army.

This year, SHM Converge will introduce a new curricular track focused on vulnerable populations, which will include sessions about managing patients with medical complexities, social instability, language barriers, and those who are transgender and nonbinary. Clinical Updates, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, High-Value Care, and Wellness are among the additional 16 tracks offered.

For additional networking and development opportunities, attendees will also have the choice to attend a speed mentoring session, the Scientific Abstract Competition, a “Shark Tank” event, and Special Interest Forums, in addition to many others.

“It’s impossible to sum up the unforgettable experience we have in store for you next month,” explains Dr. Christopher Whinney, SHM Converge Course Director. “We invite you to join us to learn some amazing content specifically for hospital medicine professionals, leverage great networking opportunities, contribute to your professional development, and improve selected skills in hospital-based care.”
